Robert Chiazzo
Robert Chiazzo (1924–2020) was a French painter and ceramist associated with the postwar Vallauris ceramic scene. After returning to Bormes-les-Mimosas following military service during the Second World War, he developed a ceramic practice rooted in traditional forms and expressive surfaces. His work is characterized by pink and coppery red glazes, chamotte clay, and pieces that range from organic, animal-like shapes to more brutalist stoneware. Today, Chiazzo’s ceramics are widely collected and exhibited internationally for their strong material presence and distinctive character.
