Yana Matkivski is a New York womenswear label developed slowly and in person from an atelier in Greenwich Village, with pieces made alongside the workrooms of the city's Garment District. Born in Ukraine, Matkivski grew up as a competitive rhythmic gymnast and trained for years in ballet, an upbringing that shapes her precise sense of proportion, movement and the body. The collection draws on the colors, flowers and everyday details of Ukrainian culture, realized with a team rooted in ballet and costume design.
